I am happiest when I am able to assist others. I’d spent two weeks intensively preparing my friend Oguz, whose English was poor, for a SAT exam. He was overjoyed when he scored 1150 points unexpectedly, but I was even happier. Prioritizing the success of my friends over my own harmed my ability to demonstrate my potential through pure test grades. However, this situation has made me happy.
I believe that helping others is more effective than antidepressants or chocolate in increasing the release of the happiness hormone serotonin. My father, who is very friendly and self-sacrificing, intervened many times when he wanted me to avoid the abuses he had suffered. My father and I had many disagreements about this because I believe that everyone should live their own life and destiny.
