As my country drifted away from democracy, I drifted away from it.

As my country drifted away from democracy, I drifted away from it.

At a time when there is a global shift toward autocracy and dictatorship, the free world must take serious steps to reverse this negative trend with the only way to end this situation is to ensure that people in the relevant countries have critical thinking skills. As someone who witnessed my country’s transition from democracy to autocracy following 2016, I want to be able to correct this situation in the long run by receiving an excellent education. Given that each of them requires a good education in order for people to be aware of and defend their rights, it is obvious that I can lead social enlightenment in the long run by receiving a good education free of any doctrine or government. Because I personally witnessed how the masses of community in Turkey were misled by the government’s irrational news, believed the imposed information instead of using their own minds, and even worse, vigorously defended them, which was unfortunately only a small sample of what I read about Nazi Germany. Unfortunately, The dictatorship that emerged in Nazi Germany did not only harm people in Germany, but also resulted in the death of tens of millions of people all over the world during World War II, so today’s free world should take measures to prevent this situation from happening again in the near future.

While I assumed Nazi Germany’s events were far away, it was heartbreaking to witness a similar process in my own country. My country had quickly shifted from democracy to autocracy, and dictatorship seemed imminent. My thoughts and opinions were regarded as unusual because they differed greatly from those of the majority of society. I know my disagreement with the majority of society stems from my ability to protect myself from one-sided media ‘information pollution.’ As my country drifted away from democracy, I drifted away from it.

Following a failed coup attempt in Turkey, I witnessed firsthand the importance of justice and fair treatment in human life. When my father was arrested with fabricated evidence, I will never forget the tears on my mother’s face, the overwhelming sense of helplessness, and being ripped from a sense of belonging to a community or a country. We were no longer upstanding members of our society after a single night; we were simply “political criminals.” My father was arrested and declared an enemy of the state, but my mother, I, and my brother faced discrimination at almost every stage of our lives (from the bank to school). I hoped that political pressure, freedom of expression, and human rights violations would improve in my country. However, my country’s record on human rights and democracy is deteriorating. I want to be optimistic despite everything.

This experience shattered the small bubble in which I was born and raised, giving me some serious perspective on my surroundings and my future. I started paying more attention to my surroundings. This brought to light some of the negative aspects of my country’s political missteps.

What is happening now appears to vindicate David Peat, the author of the synchronicity book, because events in any country today have the potential to affect the entire world globally; for example, what happens in Belarus affects Turkey and many other countries. To change the course of this negative trend, particularly in my country, I must first be able to properly raise myself. In order to be prepared for future political change, I need to be well-educated, critical-thinking capable, and equipped with all of the values of the free world.

I believe that in order to gain potential political or social leadership in the future, I should study in more than one major, not just one, with one in STEM and the other in the social field. Physics and linguistics, the two main fields I’ll be studying at university, bring David Peat and me together on the same page because Peat believes there is an inexplicable link between matter and mind, and I’ve realized there is a serious link between matter and words.

I decided that the only way I could turn my country’s negatives in the fields of human rights and democracy into long-term positives was to get a good education in the free world. I am confident that receiving a high-quality interdisciplinary academic education in physics and linguistics will inspire my mind and contribute to existing knowledge.

While experiencing discrimination in almost every aspect of social life, I learned the value of even the smallest assistance. This experience taught me the importance of standing up for those who are persecuted, regardless of religion or race. As someone who has been discriminated against at some point in my life, I really would like to help people who have been discriminated against for any reason.
